Brianna's Letter

On January 30, 2005 – George Galbreath’s second anniversary of sobriety – his teenage daughter Brianna wrote him the following letter:

Dear Dad,

I am swollen with pride that it is hard for me to find the words to express my deepest pleasure of being your daughter. You have come from the darkest of dark into a light that has brightened your path as well as your life. You have been through a rebirth into a clearer life. I see through you what I will aspire to be as I grow as well as mature. I admire your courage in addition to your bravery to break from the puzzle and stand as an individual piece. I have learned so much from you and my learning has just begun just as yours. These past 2 years I have watched you grow as a mother watching her offspring discover the world around it. The world around you is getting bigger and brighter with every day.

Your love and guidance means so much to me and I am truly the luckiest girl in the world to have you as my father. You tell me so often how happy I make you feel and how proud you are of me, but the real happiness and joy lies within the depth of my heart and my soul. You have touched the lives of some and inspired most to look at the lives they are living. Your honesty has helped and will continue to help others in need of guidance. If you ever feel that you have not helped someone, look into my eyes and see the strength in me that came from you.

God has so much in store for you and his plan is bigger than you and I both can imagine. You have come so far and have so far to go. I thank God every day for you and your journey. I am always going to have your back and I know you have mine.
